When starting out on a self-build campervan or motor home project one the first jobs will be to install the 12 volt electrical system and if required the mains hook-up electrical supply. After all, there would be no point in boarding or panelling the ‘van before deciding on where to run the wiring and cables for the electrical supply; that is of course unless you’re the sort of person who likes to make your life difficult, you want unsightly cables and wires running up the sides and roof of your ‘vans interior, or you’re a contortionist! By fitting two leisure batteries in parallel you will double the available ampere hours, i. If your installing a mains system from scratch you’ll need a mains hook-up installation kit which comes complete with all the necessary wiring, cables, connectors, RCD residual current device , MCB’s mini circuit breakers , plug sockets and a test button to make sure everything is working correctly. If your repairing an existing mains hook-up supply you should be able to find what you need within our Web site.

The 9 cap is available at your local GM dealer. Ask for AC Delco type RC32 part and a 10 cap is available at most autoparts store under a Stant part number , if they don’t have it, have them order it for you. The lower pressure rated caps are not carried by the store much but they are available. Wright One item that makes the radiator leak is using the wrong Pressure Cap.
From there, you can hook up the hitch once more, check for any issues that caused it and hit the road again. Hooking up your trailer hitch from the start is the number one .
I decided to start this blog because I could find very little on line discussion about the Nexus RV company out side of company produced videos. The story of Nexus RV can be found on the company info pages so I will not repeat it here. Having a motorhome is not new to us. We had a Pleasure-Way built in Canada wide body unit for ten years. Had all the motorhome features but was certainly on the small side.
It still served us very well for a decade. Kudos to Pleasure-Way for building a very well constructed quality unit. We spent that decade basically touring the eastern part of the country from the Mississippi to the Atlantic Ocean. We rarely spent more than a few days in one spot.

The first part, the 30 amp side of the socket, goes to the normal, everyday things we all use. It includes one of two air conditioners. The other side of the socket goes to the second air conditioner. Now let’s get the concept and not get hung up on “code”. A “code” 50 amp outlet is one that will provide for you 50 amps of volt AC. That outlet can also provide two separate 50 amp volt feeds.

We know we have to follow specific regulations when driving our motorhome, but there are also some equally important rules for parking and stopovers. Here are the Fiat Professional for Recreational Vehicles tips for avoiding mistakes. In the latter case, this will leave us time to move elsewhere. Places that are too secluded or isolated, however romantic, are not recommended. Also be careful of places that are too crowded or near to potential sources of disturbance car parks belonging to nightclubs, stadiums, etc.
Motorway lay-bys are gradually losing the appeal they once had: It may be preferable to keep driving a few more miles in the direction of a quiet village, where you can find a suitable spot to camp overnight in your Ducato-based motorhome and rest easy without attracting attention. Of course, when parking we need to avoid causing damage or disturbance to people around us, whether they are campers and motorhome owners in the same parking area, or local residents.
If we want to be respected, we must first show respect to others. Motorhome stopovers on authorised sites It might sound obvious, but always remember to go slowly when driving and manoeuvring on authorised stopover sites rest areas, campsites, holiday farms or car parks , for the safety of everyone—especially children who will certainly be present—and to avoid unnecessarily kicking up dust, mud or getting other holidaymakers dirty. For this purpose, you will need a three-core cable of sufficient length and some plugs so that you can connect it to the hook-up socket you can also purchase multi-plugs with adjustable prongs that can be used in many different countries.
You should also keep noise levels down for the sake of your neighbours on the site. Non-campsite stopovers in a motorhome Note that overnight parking other than at approved stopovers or campsites is not permitted in all countries.

In our motorhomes things are rather different, we need a portable and reliable heat source source and while you can ‘have a hook-up’ to mains electricity on site, that may not always be convenient. Vehicles normally rely on 12 volt batteries for mobile power but this just isn’t powerful enough for heating.
People at campgrounds are some of the friendliest most helpful people you will ever meet. I have seen it time and again when a camper pulls in and they are having problems with something and their next door neighbor, whom they never met, is right there to assist them. I have also observed and assisted several campers who were new to RVing and not really sure how to set their unit up when they arrive at the campground. While talking to these new Rvers it came up more than once how they wished that they had a checklist to follow to make things easier.
I compiled over 25 checklists in an attempt to cover all aspects of RVing. This is an excerpt from the book to assist new campers when they arrive at the campground. However most RVs do have many things in common and that is what we will concentrate on.

What causes a Charger to fail? On 1st February Kev wrote: I’ve now fitted the new EBL99 with two new Varta batteries and they’re charging from mains hook-up perfectly. The new EBL is working fine. I’ve charged the old batteries using my bench charger and then tested them using a Sealey 12v battery tester and they’re both refusing to hold the charge”. When Kev first contacted us, we suggested the reason for the chargers failure would be poor batteries, as that, or an oversize battery bank, is almost always the cause.
He initially disagreed with our diagnosis thinking his batteries were good. As you can see from the above, our experience of doing this since shows. Modern Alternators are very reliable.

Read on if you want to learn how to use our electric hook-up facility safely and efficiently. There are two main ways you can power electrical devices on the campsite. The first is to use a leisure battery, which is like a car battery and provides a 12V supply, and the second is an electric hook-up. Most commercial campsites in the UK will offer electric hook-ups on some or all of their pitches, we have 46 here at the Red Shoot Camping Park. The power on our site is designed on the basis of diversity so the main site power supply is geared up to an average electrical usage assuming not all hook-ups take 10A at any one time.
Occasionally, if a cold spell occurs at times of high occupancy and all users switch on electrical heaters, kettles etc.

Please be guided accordingly. Practical Tips For Towing The following tips were compiled from an inquiry that I made several weeks ago regarding practical tips for towing in the Yahoo Bounder Group and in the www. These tips were compiled from group replies and personal e-mails from both groups. I would like to thank all the persons who shared their tips. By far the most tips had to do with developing a good check list and using it for hooking up and unhooking the toad.
Keep a copy of the checklist in the toad and in the RV. Attached is a list that I was directed to and which I believe makes a good starting point in developing a list that is specific for your situation. Towing Safety Checklist Inspect the tow bar, dolly or trailer for loose bolts and worn parts. Tighten loose bolts and replace worn parts before hooking up.
Custom Truck RV: Modern Motorhome Living or a Tiny House?
After a good deal of back and forth, our first purchase actually landed us with a ft travel trailer that we pulled with a half-ton diesel truck. It all depends on your wants and needs. Below we take a look at some of the most important considerations and specifically compare a class C motorhome to a mid-sized travel trailer. Weighing the impact to your bank account 1 Upfront Cost Simply put, a class C motorhome is sure to cost more than a like-condition travel trailer. There are a lot of variables that can come into play here i.
For example, we initially purchased a used travel trailer and a used diesel truck.
If appropriate, and provided that the site host allows it, you can hook up to the mains supply to recharge the motorhome’s batteries and use volt appliances (such as a hair dryer).
Tue Mar 25, Thanks Jus, No problem with questions. I’m not sure what the red switch does. It’s a key like device, located inches from the battery. I didn’t switch it at all last year. When I do turn the key, nothing happens. Yes lights etc do work in the motorhome.

You might imagine that these events, given their disruptive impact on your future, would be significant, memorable, and jarring; a wakeup call. They aren’t; at least for me they weren’t. In our family I was the responsible one, a good family member, the kind uncle, a generous brother. I thought I could handle anything life threw at me given my self confidence was so high.

Feb 5, 33 When we first started off full timing, we used a Jeep and then eventually a truck to pull small travel trailers. When we were settled into a camping spot the house was unhitched, and the tow vehicle became our local transportation. And then we got a motorhome, or more precisely, a vintage bus conversion. While we were getting used to motorhome life, we opted to go without a toad RVer lingo for towed behind vehicle for our first several months.
We had enough on our plate figuring out what we had gotten ourselves into with a vintage bus.
Philip and his partner in Arizona, Michelle, were both so nice and helpful during our trip out West with our first RV rental. We had a great trip and though we had some issues that I consider normal with an RV, Philip just could not have been more available and helpful in getting them solved. There’s not much more I can say really except that I think that these people obviously run their business with people’s well-being in mind Philip is great, my family and I will be renting the same RV this year.
Last year was our first experience and it was absolutely wonderful. Thank you Phillip for our amazing vacation last year and this year as well! I would definitely rent from them again. I’ve researched RV rentals from the national chain type outfits in the past and not only are they much more expensive, it takes days to get approved and you end up with a cookie cutter unit. Not so with Hightened Path. I was quickly approved to rent and it set up fairly quickly.
