Research and experience will tell you if the color, texture, weight, design, or general “feel” of the piece is right.

Tiffany Maker Marks Born in , Jensen was the son of a knife grinder in the town of Raadvad just to the north of Copenhagen. Jensen began his training in goldsmithing at the age of 14 in Copenhagen. His apprenticeship with the firm Guldsmed Andersen, ended in , and this freed young Georg to follow his artistic interests.

From father to son, this family produced silversmiths for two hundred years. Old Royal Copenhagen Back Stamp
Royal Worcester Marks were first placed on pottery and porcelain in but it was before it became common place. Earlier Worcester Marks are rarely seen, and typically the crescent mark dates pieces to the Dr Wall period before But pieces bearing the crescent mark are rare and usually the provence of specialist collectors. In the late s Worcester were among the first to use the Bute shape for teabowls, tea cups and coffee cups.
The presence of the crescent mark dates these items to the Dr Wall period and they are all very similar in shape, size and decoration to those made in the same period by Caughley.
Aynsley China. Aynsley is one of the best-known names in the Staffordshire Potteries, with a history reaching back to the late eighteenth century. Started in by John Aynsley in Longton England, (died in ) who soon developed a reputation as a master potter and a well-known decorator of creamwares and other y used local Staffordshire clay and elaborate designs created.
The pattern has a fascinating history. Its origins, however are even older and tradition has it that the pattern was brought to Europe from China or Japan at some time in the late 18th Century. Frantz Heinrich Muller first produced the pattern at his pottery in Copenhagen at some time between and After establishing his pottery he travelled to Germany and recruited skilled workers from the Meissen factories.
Muller was a chemist and his contribution may have been the development of the characteristic ultramarine blue used on the wares. On close examination the pattern consists of a repeating pattern of mussels and stylized flowers traditionally in an under-glaze blue on a white background. The pattern is complex, but not over-elaborate and sits crisply on any pure white background. It seems somehow to typify the typical Danish love of hygiene in food preparation and service, this quality being self-expressed in terms of coolness.
There is a clean, satisfying, superlative beauty in it that seems to conjure up a sense of health and vitality.
